Chicano Arte/ Hispanic Art

Ever since I can remember I have been into Chicano Arte/ Hispanic Art. It is a different form of art. It depicts the history of a Mexican American. My history In the 1960's the Civil Right Movement through art started (El Movimiento). Art was not just something to look at it told a story. It let Chicanos express their feelings. Chicano art express deep emotional thoughts through art to this day. El Movimiento main objective was to gain and restore Civil Rights of the Mexican Americans. It help enhance education, farm worker rights, voting and political rights and many other aspects. To this day it still exists.

This image depicts the Chicano community boycotting grapes which is one of the major productions of California where the majority of this movement occurred. It has an Aztec warrior stating that they are here to fight for equality and showing the grape juice in red resembling blood shed of the discrimination against them and loss of life in process to gain rights.

This is an example of Chicano art which has gone a little away from its original meaning but still tells a story of the love for her but in the banner below is says" My People First"

Transformation Cont.

I had absolutely no idea then i thought, i love sneakers. Why not make one from shoes lace.At first this seemed like an ideal project. First issue though was shoelaces are not sturdy so how do i make this stay up, then my wonderful wife had a brilliant idea. Casting gauze. So i asked my sister for some because she had some left over form when she was pregnant earlier in the year and she made a cast the shape of her belly. so i took a shoe and molded it with it. it seemed to be working out great but as it dried it started looking blocky which was not my intention at ALL. AHHHHH.  So i continued with it to see how it start to look. So i completed of shoes and it look OK. Good. next step spray paint it. Ya didn't work the spray paint i had wouldn't stick to the laces. I decided not to buy different paint because i bought $25 dollars in shoes lace, ya $25 in laces at the dollar store and they have no returns just store credit. AHHHHHHHHHH

Transmormation

New assignments. First thing that came to mind was TRANSFORMERS. It is one of my favorite movies. The concept of the project was using found objects and transforming them into a sculpture with a conceptual meaning. As i mentioned TRANSFORMERS would be idea, but we have to create our own not something that is ready made. Then after settling down and really thinking about what to create I went Blank. So i decided to revert to google to find something to transform with shoes.I came across some awesome ideas but no meaning that i might want to use as an inspiration but they didn't have a mean to them

Skeleton Critiques

Skeleton Critiques were today and was i amazed at some of my fellow class mates projects. Some of the where so complex and seem that they spend tons of hours on and a few looked like the were done right before class. I really enjoyed going around to the different labs get inspired by others work. it makes me think what if i did this to mine or something. It allows us to get inspired and as well inspire others with  our own work. I have posted a few that i tend to extremely like.

This was one from my lab. I thought  This was done extremely well. It must of taken for ever. it was done my a Metal Arts Major student, it was very symetcical and had an nice soft felling. It reminded my of a chandelier at first then  a flower.Over all a Great Job Done!
This piece caught my eye right away. It had a pattern going with every other side covered in skin. It is very well done geometric piece. and the best past of all was the little twirly part in the middle of the structure. It consisted of a triangle structure.
this one was interesting. It literally look like the wires from the wall were coming out creating a bouquet of flowers. The placement of this particular piece would have worked better i think coming out of the floor, because it resembles flowers, personal i don't know of any flower that grow horizontally.

Final Skeleton/Skin

This abstract, non- representational design was chosen due to the wavy and eye catching design. it was constructed of solid copper wire. it creates an upward swirl creating a path for the eye to follow. it leads you around making you wanting to look all the around. the inner part of the structure has tissue paper as a skin, it alternates in color creating movement and somewhat transparent look. it starts off with a plane that turns creating concave and convex elements going up. the outer [art is a small thin swirl going up the structure and narrowing tat the top giving the inner part some depth.a light source was also added to create light and shadows enhancing the concave and convexes of the structure.
