For this assignment we are to create 10 sketches of some ideas and get started on our ideas. This will get our mind thinking and imagining different options for this

My best ideas right now is to create an accordion fold book and have two images on it so depending on the angle you are look  at you will see different image. Second is my idea to create a dictionary into the alphabet in a accordion fold.

This from of Book art is very interesting and eye catching. It cuts out the book and revels different layers of the book creation this depth affect.it is very organic and abstract.This book is similar to the affect i would like to create. that it look like a regular book on it side closed, but the when opened it has the WOW affect. the different color to all the pages is what really brings everything together.

This artist main thing is taking 2 dimensional images and standing them up but also making the 3 dimensional in a accordion fold. This particular artist is really no changing much other then the display of being stood up rather than on the table like a regular book. this is a dry and boring piece. This one needs more movement and a conceptual meaning to it and desighe making it seem more artistic.

This is art. really. It looks like the book got wet and dried all crinkled up. it this book art. Personally i don't think so because nothing was really doe that would alter it other then the book getting went. I would not considered that this has any aesthetic value for a WET book.

BOOK ARTS/Art Book

New Assignment:  Create a well crafted and conceptual interesting altered book sculpture or artist book. This assignment look interesting. So we take an everyday book and make it into art with a conceptual meaning. Must include repetition, a rhythm, sequence etc.

List of ideas: 

• Create an accordion book of different sneakers on side and on other dress shoes. so depending on what side you look at it from you see different thing.
• create a beach scene out of an atlas or travel book 
• stack books and cut ends to resemble and upward spiral.
• create a sign out of children books that says story time.
• take a toy story book and create the pages into the carachters 
• create an acording fold alphabet out of a dictionary.

Transformation Critiques

Critiques were today. We went around to the different labs to get a view of what the created for this assignment. there were some that were extremely good that you could tell that they out some real dedication and went above and beyond. then their were the ones that made you think REALLY. I had some other than mine that were my favorite and can be inspired by.


Sushi lunch made out of candy was a clever idea. Personally i have never had sushi but this makes me think that is sweet.

 This has a very strong conceptual meaning behind it. People really do smoke like its candy and the younger kids today think its cool.

Transformation

I finally went a different direction with my transformation project. I constructed a cup out of straws. The conceptual meaning behind it was that a straw is used as a passage for water and not to contain it.

 The whole thing was inspired by my sons sippy cup. It fun and exciting. I constructed my straw cup to look similar to a beer mug. Today's society kid look up at adults and think its cool to drink. Drinking is over rated. Today they make energy drink mix with alochol to draw the younger crowd in to drink. In my mug I incorporated  a ceramic texture not smooth but not to rough to tie in the kid aspect. Children today are drinking at a younger age  and companies are trying to create something that will appeal to them. Children will like it just because the container looks cool.

Chicano Arte/ Hispanic Art

Ever since I can remember I have been into Chicano Arte/ Hispanic Art. It is a different form of art. It depicts the history of a Mexican American.My history In the 1960's the Civil Right Movement through art started (El Movimiento). Art was not just something to look at it told a story. It let Chicanos express their feelings. Chicano art express deep emotional thoughts through art to this day. El Movimiento main objective was to gain and restore Civil Rights of the Mexican Americans. It help enhance education, farm worker rights, voting and political rights and many other aspects. To this day it still exists.

This image depicts the Chicano community boycotting grapes which is one of the major productions of California where the majority of this movement occurred. It has an Aztec warrior stating that they are here to fight for equality and showing the grape juice in red resembling blood shed of the discrimination against them and loss of life in process to gain rights.

  

This is an example of Chicano art which has gone a little away from its original meaning but still tells a story of the love for her but in the banner below is says" My People First"

Transformation Cont.

I had absolutely no idea then i thought, i love sneakers. Why not make one from shoes lace.At first this seemed like an ideal project. First issue though was shoelaces are not sturdy so how do i make this stay up, then my wonderful wife had a brilliant idea. Casting gauze. So i asked my sister for some because she had some left over form when she was pregnant earlier in the year and she made a cast the shape of her belly. so i took a shoe and molded it with it. it seemed to be working out great but as it dried it started looking blocky which was not my intention at ALL. AHHHHH.  So i continued with it to see how it start to look. So i completed of shoes and it look OK. Good. next step spray paint it. Ya didn't work the spray paint i had wouldn't stick to the laces. I decided not to buy different paint because i bought $25 dollars in shoes lace, ya $25 in laces at the dollar store and they have no returns just store credit. AHHHHHHHHHH
